Here’s my sheltie Taz’s appearance on Pet Star performing his routine of tricks while blindfolded, the first dog to my knowledge to ever do such a thing. I would never have thought a dog would anything like this, particularly since most dogs refuse to move when they have their eyes covered. But once I found out he was willing to do simple tricks like waving with the blindfold on, we just started working out harder and harder skills and he just totally amazed me with his uncanny ability to …

All my training is done with positive reinforcement…rewarding the dog with treats, toys, praise etc. and never correcting or punishing him with force. I often use a clicker as well for shaping some of the skills originally. That’s why he is so happy and having fun doing this! Some of the things we tried with the blindfold clearly bothered him too much so I never pushed him to do those, I believe strongly in not forcing a dog to do things they are not happy about doing.

That is a gorgous dog! I had my own sheltie named Babo, but rather handsomely colored. I trained him tricks like to jump and sit in a baby carrigae and such. Sadly, He passed away just a few months ago, but When I see Taz, I cant help but smile and remember my babo. Truly awsome, and I hope Taz lives a long good life.

Thanks, and sorry for your loss. Taz passed away over a year ago but there’s still not a day that goes by that I don’t miss him terribly. There will never be another dog like him!
